WriteRAP Blog Launch

Hello! I am Patrick Kanouse, the Program Manager for CMS’s Structured Authoring team, and welcome to Pearson's WriteRAP blog. WriteRAP is one of the tools we support.

Since I took the job in early March of this year, I’ve contemplated starting this blog, and after some consideration and getting my team’s buy-in, here it is. This blog is intended for users of Pearson's WriteRAP tool.

In this blog entry, I’ll introduce the Structured Authoring team and what you can expect from this blog:

Karen Stephens will spend a lot of her time on QAing WriteRAP templates from a technical perspective, ensuring XML coding compliance, proper design implementation (font mapping, spacing between and amongst design features), etc.

Xiaohong Zhu will also do some QAing, but she will be focused on developing math workflows and processes to ensuring the portability of math across platforms.

Dan Parker and Tom Richards will serve as the primary BU liaisons in regards to WriteRAP implementation, helping to coordinate WriteRAP template creation, making workflow recommendations, addressing BU needs, etc. Dan will focus on Higher Ed while Tom focuses on Curriculum.

Ray Parenteau will serve as a system administrator for the WriteRAP, which entails developing features, troubleshooting, etc.

Abigail Bass, regarding WriteRAP, will provide consultation on strategies for using WriteRap, such as evaluating designs for compatibility with WriteRAP, keeping documentation fresh, training vendors, and participating in enhancement and development among other things. In addition, Abby is the primary member of the team tasked with taking first looks at alternative technologies for structured authoring and seeing how the tool may or may not fit into the overall Pearson strategy.

Alan Aikens is the man behind the server, providing hardware support and working with our hosting company.

Larry Sulky, called the Godfather of WriteRAP, essentially created what we know today as WriteRAP (he developed an early version of it into what it is now). Working for Pearson Canada, the US gets a lot of his time as he continues to develop features and tools for WriteRAP.

That's a quick introduction, but do note that these are but the tiniest of fragments of what these team members work on day in and day out.

The purpose of this blog is to provide a regular communication format (twice a week) for users of WriteRAP, providing noteworthy news (e.g., new releases, server installs, etc.), tips and tricks, experiences, etc. This will be a WriteRAP focused blog, though some of our discussions may seem to veer away from the tool, but they will all have some relationship to WriteRAP.

Thank you for reading, and we'll be blogging again soon!

Sincerely,

Patrick and the Structured Authoring team
